Notes:
HONEY is the food substance that bees produce starting from the nectar of flowers or from the secretions of living parts of plants, which they collect, transform, combine with their own substances and place in their honeycombs. Numerous exchanges take place from one bee to another, inside the hive, which allow a gradual maturation and enrichment of enzymes that derive from the glandular secretions of the bees themselves. The main components of honey are fructose, glucose, water, other sugars and various substances, including organic acids, mineral salts, enzymes, aromas and many others. Honey is a food of high nutritional value, easily assimilated. Glucose supplies energy for immediate use, fructose is metabolised in the liver and constitutes an energy reserve. The PINE (Pinus sylvestris) contains an essence known as essence of pine pumillo or essence of mugo, it is an essential oil made up of a mixture of monoterpenic hydrocarbons such as alpha and beta pinene, fellandrene, caffene and borneol. All substances with an antiseptic, balsamic and secretolytic action which manifest their activity exclusively on the respiratory system. The essence, given its volatility, is also used for inhalations, instillations and fumigations. MALLOW (Malva sylvestris) contains in its flowers and leaves a large quantity of mucilages made up of a rather heterogeneous range of polysaccharides (methylpentoses, cellulose hexoses, galacturonic acid) and above all in the flowers it contains an anthocyanin glucoside called malvin. It is these active ingredients that give the mallow an emollient and anti-inflammatory action of considerable interest. The mucilage acts by calming the inflammatory state of the mucous membranes, protecting them from stimuli and preventing the reabsorption of irritating substances in contact with their surface. Malvina, on the other hand, has a decidedly anti-inflammatory action. The LINDEN (Tilia cordata) contains mucilage, in its bracts and in its flowers an essential oil consisting largely of an aliphatic sesquiterpenic alcohol, called farnesol; the drug also contains quercitin, tiliroside and tilianine. It is these active ingredients that give the drug the characteristic of being a good anti-catarrhal emollient (mucilage), sudoriferous and antispasmodic probably due to flavonic glucosides, are the flowers that are used as diaphoretic, antispasmodic and sedative in the forms of cooling. The most important therapeutic action of THYME (Thymus vulgaris) is the expectorant action that is successfully used in the treatment of catarrhal diseases of the respiratory tract with cough and whooping cough. This activity is due to the increase in bronchial secretion and a fluidifying effect of mucus, practiced by the active ingredients thymol and carvacol. The essential oil also has a bacteriostatic action, especially on gram+ bacteria. The essential oil of MINT (Mentha piperita) is used here as an organoleptic corrective, although, let’s not forget, menthol has a spasmolytic action.
