In Spagyria, for example, it is used to circulate ethyl alcohol on suitably purified barrel tartar or on calcium oxide, in order to obtain spagyric alcohol. Its high structure allows plant mercury to circulate regularly and completely, an indispensable condition for the matter to be progressively refined.
More generally, all substances characterized by a marked volatility find the most suitable container in the long and narrow neck circulator, since its particular conformation favors the ascension, condensation and continuous recirculation of the thinnest parts.
