Pathology:
Hepatic emunctory activator, increases the metabolic activity of the hepatobiliary enzymatic chains, causes the production and flow of bile. Hypercholesterolemia, bad breath, liver poisoning.
Notes:
ARTICHOKE (Cynara scolimus) is a stimulant of liver and biliary functions thanks to its contained principles (o-diphenols and flavonoids). The increase in the metabolic activity of the hepatobiliary enzymatic chains causes a reduction in cholesterolemia and in nitrogen and lipid levels. Flavonoids and terpenic alcohols protect the membrane of the liver parenchyma. It has digestive, purifying action, useful in hepatobiliary dysfunctions (with or without lithiasis), in hypercholesterolemia and hyperuricemia related to liver diseases of various entities, in hyperlipidemia and in atheromatous risk. The choleretic and hepatoprotective action is performed through activity on the metabolism of urea: Artichoke extracts, in fact, help to decrease blood urea nitrogen by stimulating the hepatic transformation of nitrogenous molecules imperfectly processed by the insufficient liver, not very diffusible by the kidney, into less toxic urea and diffusible through the kidney (Nicoletti M., Mazzanti G., Lecture notes, As. Si. Pro Far., 163-164). Its strongly choleretic action is due to the presence of cynarin in the plant. MARIAN CARDO (Silybum marianum) is indicated in the prophylaxis and therapy of liver diseases due to intoxication (toxins, alcohol), it is a hepatoprotector. It has been tested in intoxications with compounds that induce the degeneration of hepatocytes. The flavonolignans contained in thistle bind to the cell membrane stimulating the production of RNA by acting on RNA-polymerase A, so that as a consequence there is an increased enzymatic synthesis with consequent facilitation of the detoxification of harmful molecules. Furthermore, the binding of flavonolignans reduces the entry of compounds into the cell cytoplasm. The thistle also contains other active ingredients such as flavonoids and sterols which favor the biliary and renal elimination of toxic metabolites and reduce the deposit of fat in the liver parenchyma. Excellent cholagogue, purifying, tonic and digestive stimulant. Main remedy as hepatoprotector in intoxications from hepatotoxic substances, useful in liver failure (cirrhosis, hepatitis, etc.), also useful as a cholecystokinetic. In DANDELION (Taraxacum officinale) the triterpenes (taraxasterols), in synergy with the sesquiterpenic lactones, act as cholecystokinetics by activating the muscles of the gallbladder by modifying the chemical-physical characteristics of the bile. Flavonoids and eudesmanolides interact by increasing diuresis. It has a protective action against free radicals. Useful as a draining and purifying hepatorenal, in disorders of the gallbladder and in biliary lithiasis, in dermatoses associated with dysmetabolism. Stimulates liver functionpractical laboratory and clinical tests have shown both the increase in the contraction of the gallbladder (cholagogue action) and the increase in biliary secretion (choleretic action) (Della Loggia R., op. cit., p. 486). Dandelion also has a powerful diuretic activity, higher than most other liver plants. The diterpene and depsidic fractions contained in ROSEMARY (Rosmarinus officinalis), rosmarinic acid, perform numerous activities: cholecystokinetics, at the gastrointestinal level there is the stimulation of digestive functions and the regularization of the activity of bacterial flora. Useful in dyspepsias with flatulence especially if associated with hepatobiliary stasis, digestive headaches. The antispasmodic, choleretic and antioxidant properties of Rosemary (Rombi M., op. cit., p. 267) make the plant useful in the symptomatic treatment of digestive disorders and to facilitate the functions of renal and intestinal elimination (draining action). GENTIAN (Gentiana lutea) contains bitter principles, alkaloids (gentianin), inulin, pectin and phenolic acids. Gentian stimulates the gustatory receptor linked to the bitter taste, causing an increase in salivary and gastric secretion. The stimulating action of the plant on the work of the stomach relieves dysfunctions such as flatulence and indigestion. Gentian also stimulates hepatic and biliary functions, it enters into all treatments for all digestive disorders.
